„Omeprazole or Equine 74 Gastric? My horses just feel better with Equine 74 Gastric.“
In 2005, Vincent Voorn, the son of Olympic medalist Albert Voorn, became European Champion of his age group. Only two years later he was competing as an international show jumper and became Team European Champion in Mannheim in 2007.
Mr Voorn, did you had experience with stomach ulcers affecting your horses in the past?
Vincent Voorn: „Yes, unfortunately! One of my best horses was constantly affected by this. Because of the many travels from one competition to another, this one horse, which was nervous by nature anyway, became very stressed on several occasions and this led to colic more and more often. At one point, this horse was given a whole tube of Gastrogard every day. That helped eventually.“
When the substance Omeprazole helped, why did you not stay with this method?
Vincent Voorn: „There are two reasons, mainly. Equine 74 Gastric is considerably cheaper than Gastrogard, both in middle and long-term calculation. Additional to that, it is much easier to handle because it is given together with the feed. For some time now, I provide all of my 35 competition horses with Equine 74 Gastric – without any hassle.“
Do all your sport horses have problems with the stomach?
Vincent Voorn: „I can´t be 100% certain but I am of the opinion that it is always better to take prophylactic measures instead of waiting until the actual problem occurs. My horses also travel long distances and that is not done without stress and nervousness. One horse is less affected, another horse more. But I just have a good feeling with Equine 74 Gastric. All the horses are more relaxed since it is given to them. And that is a good base for top sporting performance.“
And that is what counts at the end of the day, the top sporting performance, correct?
Vincent Voorn: „Exactly! Most important for me is that my horses are feeling good. For this, I do everything. Only then can I get the maximum out of them. Especially my sport stallions, which are at the same time breeding stallions. They have to perform double. At the end, it is the success that counts and that determines the value of a horse. That is the way the market is.“
Your conclusion would be: rather prevent than having to treat at a later date?
Vincent Voorn: „Yes exactly! When a horse is not fit, it cannot perform in the way that I need it to perform. Because of that, I prevent with Equine 74 Gastric rather than having to perform a costly treatment at a later date.“
